THE WAVE LAMP
A large sound-reactive LED Lamp I built in the fall of 2017. The lamp was formed by wrapping a string of WS2811 controlled RGB LEDs around a ~5'4" diameter wooden hexagon. The displayed colors are rendered by solving the equations of motion for a string of coupled oscillators. The position of each mass in the coupled oscillator is mapped to a color color gradient and displayed on the LED strip. The string is perturbed using real-time readings from a microphone, which allows music and ambient sound to create waves of color along the edge of the lamp.
